Medical Examination


The Austrian Health Service recommends a preventive health examination called a »Gesunden- or Vorsorgeuntersuchung« once a year. This examination takes approximately half an hour. It consists of a full medical examination, blood test and urine test. You will need an extra appointment to discuss the results.These tests are free of charge.

Many private insurance schemes cover medical checks or preventive examinations.

What does a private medical examination include:
› Taking a full medical history.
› Full medical examination.
› ECG
› Blood test: haematology, ESR, liver and renal function, cholesterol / tryglicerides, TSH. Depending on your age, sex and medical history: hormonal test, PSA, etc.
› Urine test.
› Faecal occult blood.

This basic medical examination could be complemented with:
› 24 hours blood pressure monitoring.
› Exercise ECG or stress test.
› Echocardiogram.
› Chest X ray.
› Colonoscopy.
› Mammography.
› Bone densitometry.

It is possible to organise these medical checks as an in-patient in a private hospital.
